Primorje-Gorski Kotar, Croatia
Regional Replicators
Primorje-Gorski Kotar County represents a relatively large area and is the sixth largest region in Croatia. The county consists of three microregions: the coastal area, islands and mountain area of Gorski Kotar.
Climate change is making the county’s water situation uneven. During the long summer dry periods, natural springs generate less water, and some of it is used for the water supply. There’s an evident trend of rivers having lower water levels year-round, resulting in longer and more intense dry periods. This leads to issues such as reduced water availability, increased intensity of sporadic heavy rainfall and torrents, a higher risk of forest wildfires, and an amplified demand for energy resources.
